About Us
Boriyad Youth Academy is located in Melka Nonno Sub-City (Ashewa Meda Area), Shaggar City, to the west of the capital city Addis Ababa within the vibrant region of Oromia, Ethiopia. The school was opened in 2015/16 upon the deep interest of Mrs. Jalele Tadesse and her family. The founders’ keen interest in being engaged in delivering quality education to Ashewa Meda community laid grounds for the opening of the academy. Due to the founder’s relentless effort, the students’ number boosted from 123 to 1368 since its initial establishment.
The school presently serves grades KG–12 and has an enrollment of 1368 students, 97 professional staff members, a paraprofessional support staff of 63, and 16 administrators. Parent involvement in the school is strong and positive. The community cares about its school and takes pride in the accomplishments of its students.
However now, the school strives to place itself at the vanguard of provision of quality education. It does so through structuring itself by implementing a major reform effort which mainly emphasizes on the quality of education.
One major attribute of the structure is to personalize instruction. Teachers know their students well, i.e., they know their strengths and weakness especially after having them in their classes over an extended period of time. Imagine what can happen when lessons are developed around a student’s personal needs or learning style. The school strongly believes that it is in this system that a deeper understanding of concepts and a greater amount of learning takes place. We also believe that is just one way to begin to make Boriyad Youth Academy the best school in the surrounding of Finfinne.
Our Philosophy
Being founded on firm principles of service that is derived from faith-based themes of life, we attempt to equip young Ethiopian students with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding. We believe a generation equipped with the fear of God, good character and academic excellence could establish a reliable base for its well-being as well as for the forthcoming generations. To this end we focus on cultivating the young children we teach with:
- The development of acceptable character that does not only keep them from attitudes that hinder their fruitfulness, but also shapes them in disciplined life their productivity and happiness. Our character building program has three elements: directing children to the development of positive characters through our annual behavioral development program (BDP), setting clearly defined rules to maintain our reaction to unacceptable characters and finally applying rational procedures in dealing with consequences to offences.
- The employment of modern learning methods and resources in forwarding the teaching-learning process. This includes the use of participative learning and continuous capacity development programs among our students as well as staff.
